Miracle Oriental Ointment for Hemorrhoids and Fissure
A friend of mine came back from China in the fall of 2017 and brought me an anal ointment that’s like a national “go-to” in China for all common anal conditions, including hemorrhoids, fissures and anal sinusitis. This ointment is called Ma Ying Long.
If you know some Chinese language, Ma Ying Long sounds like a person’s name. Well, it actually is the name of a Chinese business man, whose father founded this ointment and its related startup in 1582 (Yeah, it’s that long time ago. Hey, it’s China, you know!) Ironically, Mr. Ma’s father created this ointment for inflammation of the eyes, like conjunctivitis. When Ma Ying Long took over the business, he named the ointment after his name (Yeah, maybe he should have named it after his father, but who know? An ambitious son, for sure!) Nevertheless, Ma Ying Long turned out to be a good branding compaign and has been success since then. Only in the last century or so, Ma Ying Long started to gain popularity as an annal treatment ointment. Today Ma Ying Long ointment is manufactured by Mayinglong Pharmaceutical Group Stock Co.,LTD., an listed public company on Shanghai Stock Exchange，and is named one of 1000 China’s time-honored brands.
Active Ingredients of Ma Ying Long include Pearl, Synthetic Bezoar, Synthetic Musk, Calamine, Amber. Inactive Ingredients: Vaseline, Lamoline. It’s main benefit is to reduce pain, itching, burning, and discomfort.
When I first applied it, it sends a pleasant cool sensation, opposite to what you feel from inflammation and pain – really a welcome sensation! I was hooked right away! I immediately went on Amazon and bought a few more. I also bought Ma Ying Long in suppository form
and liked it even more, as when I applied these suppositories before bedtime, the anti-inflammatory effect was very noticeable the next morning. No matter I was dealing with a hemorrhoid that’s threatening to strike or a setback in fissure healing, a round of 6 days of Ma Ying Long suppositories settled it down unwaveringly. I know there are some other good options out there, but this ointment, suppository in particular, is so easy to apply and guaranteed to work.
While Ma Ying Long brought real time relief to me, indeed, there are a few facts patients should be aware of when considering using it:
- Ma Ying Long works best when hemorrhoids and fissures are at their early stages. Thrombosed hemorrhoids or acute fissures with spasm and heavy bleeding probably will not respond to Ma Ying Long immediately.
- Ma Ying Long does not prevent hemorrhoids and fissure from recurring. In fact, no treatment will. Permanent healing takes time and long-term change of life style. In my own case, it took a little over a year when hemorrhoids (new hemorrhoids that were triggered by stress from post-hemorrhoidectomy complications) and fissure started to become asymptomatic. In other words, Ma Ying Long helps to relieve temporary symptom. Long term healing takes longer and bigger commitment than applying an ointment.
- Like many oriental herb medicines, Ma Ying Long contains a combination of ingredients, natural and synthetic. The most controversial ingredient is musk (Sorry, Elon Musk – No, there’s no relationship with you.) Traditionally musk was harvested from animals, such as musk deers. Modern medicine or perfume, which is another popular application of musk, only uses synthetic musk today. Based on the long history and wide application of this ointment and suppository, it should be considered a safe topical treatment. As with all medicines however, use only when you have to. Stop when symptoms improve or do not respond. Musk is traditionally believe to induce labor. So if you are pregnant, please use caution.
- Ironically, Ma Ying Long’s cooling and shrinking property has been applauded by some in the reduction of eye bags. I’ll let you go figure this out yourself 🙂
